DSL is use of existing analog phone lines...the cable companies are building systems (that carry digital rather than digital converted into analog) that allow TV video, phone service, and internet access all on one line...AT&T is buying two large cable TV companies to speed-up the building of new cable systems...So the idea of a phone company with a new type of orientation is an idea that presents competing opportunities in local wired "broadband" systems...

A phone company might offer phone service and internet DSL on its existing system...and offer satellite TV...plus package pricing...but it has not happened yet...

Qwst might build a new local fiber optic network on an existing local phone system...?
