Company description:

--------------------

Eagle Hardware & Garden is a leading operator of retail home improvement centers. Since its founding in 1989, the company has opened 30 home centers throughout Washington, Utah, Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon and Montana. Sales and net income for the fiscal year ended Jan. 31, 1997, totaled $761.0 million and $21.7 million, respectively. Sales and net income for the 14 weeks ended Jan. 31, 1997, totaled $192.0 million and $3.1 million, respectively.

Eagle plans to continue its growth in fiscal 1997 with the opening of five or six new stores, including stores that have already opened in Seattle and Tacoma, Washington, and Kahului (Maui), Hawaii.

Eagle has succeeded in its markets against its more established competitors by offering customer-friendly store environments, a large product selection, exceptional service, convenient locations and competitive prices. The company's home centers average 124,000 square feet and depart from warehouse-style chains with clean, well-lighted aisles, attractive displays and clearly marked signage. Eagle locations are stocked with more than 60,000 products per store under its "More of Everything(R)" merchandising philosophy -- over 30% more items than most of its competitors. The company's product categories provide a selection that is broad enough to allow a customer to purchase virtually every item needed to build a house.
