Yes, there is certainly nothing wrong with being a service company and that is where IBM is headed. It can be profitable and it can fuel growth....but will IBM's current cost structure afford it?? The conversion from a large hadware/manufacturing company to a service company is complicated and IMO will be cause for much consternation in the future. Whether this strategy will ultimately be successful is yet to be seen.

P.S. Since IBM's focus does seem to be shifting towards service, why do you think they sold IBMNet to ATT??? I was very surprised by the move.
