PACKARD BELL NEC AWARDS MCI WORLDCOM TWO MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR CONTRACTS;
COMBINED DEALS INCLUDE VOICE, DATA, MANAGED AND REMOTE Access Services

SACRAMENTO, Calif. and CLINTON, Miss., Jul 8, 1999 /PRNewswire via
COMTEX/ -- MCIWorldCom (Nasdaq: WCOM) today announced it has been
awarded two multi-year contracts for communications services, valued at
nearly $20 million, by Packard BellNEC Inc. (PBNEC), a leading supplier
of computers to home and corporate users.

"High-quality customer service and innovative product offerings likeMCI
WorldCom On-Net Services were the most important factors in our
decision to extend our relationship another four years," said Don
Liedtke, CIO of Packard Bell NEC. "There's a communications renaissance
taking place at PBNEC and MCI WorldCom is driving the technology behind
it."

The first agreement, a four-year contract for voice and data, includes
local services for all PBNEC domestic sites including Sacramento and
Mountain View, Calif., Magna, Utah and Boxborough, Mass. In addition to
local service, MCI WorldCom will provide PBNEC with audio/video
conferencing, domestic frame relay and toll-free service for their call
center in Magna, Utah.

In a separate, three-year deal, MCI WorldCom will provide fully managed
global frame relay services that will connect the European Data Center
ofa PBNEC affiliate in Wijchen, Netherlands to sales offices and
manufacturing sites of PBNEC affiliates in France, Italy, Belgium,
Spain, South Africa, Malaysia, Germany, Norway and the United Kingdom
at speeds ranging from 64Kto aT1.

Twenty-four hour dedicated network management personnel will manage the
more than 30 node network that touches more than three continents as
wellas associated customer premise equipment to ensure maximum uptime.
Additionally, MCI WorldCom, through UUNET, will provide remote access
services to office workers and outside sales force for e-mail, the
Internet and PBNEC's Intranet.
