I agree with previous poster -- look for Board Certification in a specialty field -- avoid the "Family Practitioner" lauded as insurance-company gatekeepers. The designation "Family Practitioner," too often suggests an academically-challenged medical students who do not qualify for an academically-copetitive residence. Board Certification caries with it the continuing obligation of competence in one's specialty.
