That's silly. The cut-off date of 1973 was to ensure that the product was truly everlasting. And to ensure that the products survive the "take it through a generation and see if it really made life better" test.

Again, if the Indian scientists and technologists had invented anything of real value, it would have resulted in better lives for ordinary Indian people. Enough said.

Ridiculing velcro as a trivial achievement may be all that you can do to feel smug and satisfied, but let's not forget that the country that gave many of these things to the world also gave it the internet!
