MindSpring Cancels Analyst Meeting, Says It's Still in Talks
Atlanta, July 8 (Bloomberg) -- MindSpring Enterprises Inc., the No. 4 U.S. Internet service provider, said it canceled an analyst meeting that was scheduled for next week because it's still in discussions about possible business combinations.

MindSpring said last month that it was talking to other companies, though it said it wouldn't comment further unless it entered an accord. The company hasn't yet come to any definitive agreements, said spokeswoman Kirsten Witt. ''Discussions are still going on, so we didn't think it was the best time for an analyst conference,'' said Witt. The company is being ''intentionally vague'' about the talks because there are multiple opportunities for MindSpring, she said.

Shares of Atlanta-based MindSpring rose 2 1/2 to 47 3/4 in late morning trading of 1.17 million. Charles Brewer, the eccentric founder of MindSpring, has said he's interested in combining with Internet businesses such as Microsoft Corp.'s MSN Network, Excite At Home Corp. and Lycos Inc. to gain customers and offer more services.
