Zeev,

i see your point of view. but for me, what i regard as important is the opening of the developing nations as well as the former communist countries trying to modernize.

in a recent nighline broadcast on the aftermath of the death of deng on china, i noticed a pc in the background while they were interviewing an "average chinese family." admittedly, it was probably a 286 model, but they are going to need to upgrade someday. the point being, a whole lot of consumers are out there in the world who believe that one of the ways to prosperity is high-tech or computers. they can't afford a car, but they can afford a computer.

perhaps you are right about the short-term, but in the long run, i think the world is trying to buy its way into modernization overnight. my analogy would be like the aftermath of world war ii. half the world is starting from scratch and wants to become like the tigers of the east.

finally, i don't believe the fed will increase rates so dramatically as to bring on a recession. just enough to cool things off and stabilize growth.

sorry to be long-winded. just my 2 cents.

all the best

will
