I don't believe in alimony, except in certain limited circumstances. If the married couple have a so-called "traditional" marriage, where the wife didn't work outside the home, and was expected to be a home-maker, then I think that a deal is a deal, and if her husband wants to leave her without good cause, he should pay alimony. For example, on the street I live on, which is only a block long, there are about ten houses, and only two of the households have working wives. The rest are mostly older couples, retirement age, and the wives have never worked outside the home. If one of those husbands decided to leave the wife, not for good cause, definitely the wife should get alimony.

I would say, and vice versa, but I've never actually known of the reverse situation in real life.

Or if the wife or husband is too ill to work, I think if the spouse leaves him or her, then he or she should pay alimony.

But otherwise not.

I am in favor of "rehabilitative alimony" for younger women or men, in order for them to get educated to get them back into the work force, if the situation warrants it.
