I am not sure that I would characterize P.G. Wodehouse's prose style as "great," Steven. Besides, he wrote fiction. and fiction follows a different path, as it were, from that of straight expository prose.

To be more precise: two of the major virtues of good expository prose are clarity and precision. In fiction, one often seeks ambiguity; multi-layered meanings, rather than a single clear meaning. And so forth.
