Very interesting. I will have to discuss the voice bit with a brother in law who worked on that problem for many years. I studied Vietnamese, and my children Chinese, and I know that a single monosyllable in a single Vietnamese tone can have as many as five or six meanings. Same for Mandarin. Context, of course, can help one blunder through, but I should think that the challenge is immense.
