I believe that good companies employ acquisition strategies to stay competitive and grow as quickly as possible. It's a healthy process if done for the right reasons. What is unhealthy is if hype (the story being spun of what's happening) is taken to an extreme to where the reality of the situation is greatly distorted... sometimes by a factor of 10.

Many analysts support/promote the hype instead of the reality to benefit the institutions they work for. In the end, their support of the hype is at the publics expense. What is the real role that many analysts play, and how aware is the general investing public? It is something the SEC is very concerned about.

Good point... especially true in Silicon Valley where there is a shortage of great tech help relative to number of positions that need to be filled.
