I'm back. <g>
I'm glad that you brought up this "liberal" subject again. It was something I wanted to address earlier but didn't have the time. First of all "Crocodile tears are the tears of liberalism." is just a plain silly statement that doesn't have much value. Much like your previous statement "You're wrong." On What? Or for that matter "ROTFLOL" has no value. Dispensing with that...
"You folks [liberals] don't really care about the things you claim to. Now tell me what you know about my political position[s] that destines me to be liberal. Fiscal policy...I haven't said a word about what my fiscal policy is. Gun control...I cited a Supreme Court decision of 1939 with respect to the second amendment; it seemed to me that the ruling was quite significant and indicated pretty strongly [and sarcasticly] that a Supreme Court decision takes precedent over what a sub-committee of Congress (or any individual). Abortion. Haven't said a word. School prayer, again I gave a number of links to Supreme Court decisions that we're relevent...with a simple comment of "Have a great day." You could make a reasonable assumption that I agree with those decisions, but that isn't necessarily so. It might be, but I haven't said. If the Supreme Court issues a ruling that you disagree with, they are only two options, to change the composition of the court and get a new ruling, overturning the prior one or amend the Constitution. It is my observation that the Supreme Court avoids, if at all possible, two things: (1) new precedence and (2) overturning a prior decision of the Supreme Court. Both happen, but the Court dodges those "bullets" whenever possible. If one has a moral problem with a ruling, e.g., abortion, go for the Constitutional amendment the odds are better. liberal or conservative?
I pretty strongly object to addressing someone as a "liberal femmanazi". If you want to say that "objection" defines one as a liberal, I'll happily be a liberal.
Both liberals and conservatives have had successess, failures, and dirty laundry. Acknowledging anytime less than that is dishonest. Bob Dole had a heavy hand in creating Medicare...Bob Dole liberal or conservative?
My opionions without rhetoric or hyperbole: The Republic survived Richard Nixon, the Republic will survive Bill Clinton. liberal or conservative? Ford was correct in issuing a pardon for Nixon, we knew what we needed to know, it was best to put it behind....liberal or conservative? Bush was in error, in his pardons, we didn't know what we needed to know, it wasn't time. Liberal or conservative. I wish that abortion didn't exist...liberal or conservative? Taxes will always be "unfair". The only "fair" system that I can conceive is one in which each individual pays the same amount, i.e., divide the operating budget by the number of people. It's not going to happen. conservative or liberal.
My defining political "position" is that the Constitution is a magnificent document, the structure, the processess, and the checks and balances all crafted in both and amazingly simple and complex manner. The Framers had doubts about there construction...I believe they would be pleased. I believe that the Executive and the Legislative are oblidged to follow the spirit of the Constitution but there will be times when the people's desires will push the bounds and the Executive and/or Congress will act in a manner that not in the spirit of the Constitution; and the Court is there to guide it to the intent. Constitutional law is not simple; you couldn't find two of the Framers that agreed on everything. Those that think it is simple are fools. It is also the obligation of the people to uphold the Constitution. They are free to attempt or affect change to that document, but it should not be done lightly.
So that is how I define my political view. You can label that liberal or conservative as you choose....but I would rather believe that this is a common definition of liberals and conservatives. Working from common ground can be far more productive than throwing volleys accross the aisle.
And all of you DO have a great day, Jim |
