Sven-Christer was a patsy. The Board offered him the top job knowing that Ericsson was going to go through very tough times. The Asian crisis started when Thai Baht collapsed July 1st 1997 and the economic outlook was not promising at all by early 98. Remember Asia, Russia and Brazil with overvalued currency, and Ericsson exposed in all those hot spots.

According to the NY Times Hellstrom refused the job when Lars offered him. By March 1998 -when Nilsson, a lower ranking officer working under Hellstrom, tookover- Ericsson knew they have it coming.

Nilsson presided over the dark period, Qcom mess included. After all that has passed -the 'old hands' know that the outlook from now on is bright. It is up from here on. Sven-Chirister is hammered, the old guys re-take the steering wheel back seeing better times ahead. They will pull Ericsson out of the pit and will come out as heroes.

Is about time to step in.
