Frank,
I haven't really looked up other lists, as why rely on others who one may/may not be able to trust. Cynical as it may sound, I try not to trust anyone (even those under 30 :-))
I lump VRIO/CNCX/PSIX under the same umbrella, as I do with EXDS/ABOV. The big difference, in my mind, is that the latter two are just real estate plays. Data centers and not much more. Lousy margins going forward, low barriers to entry, bigger competitors coming on, etc. The former three's future really lies not with data centers (which they do have), but with enhanced services that small- to medium-sized companies will need to do business over the Internet. AboveNet's managers told us all what they thought of the future of the Web hosting business when they sold out: it's getting tougher. The did a major secondary at about $85 (pre-split) which investors didn't like, then sold out at $100 per share (again, pre-split). Currently, Web hosting is an excellent business (just look at EXDS share price over the past three months), however IMHO this may change faster than many think. Bundling with enhanced services and connectivity (ala QWST, et.al.) could make life difficult for the real estate guys, particularly as they attempt to move into the enterprise space. Stay tuned. |
