Indian Army Recaptures Key Batalik Sector in Kashmir, AFP Says

New Delhi, July 9 (Bloomberg) -- The Indian Army recaptured the entire Batalik sector in the northern Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistan-backed militants, the Agence France Presse news agency reported, citing Lieutenant General Krishan Pal, a Indian army official. Batalik saw fierce fighting in recent days, with heavy casualties inflicted on both the Indian & Pakistani armies. The Indian army would now try to eject the rebels from the Dras & Mushkoh sectors, the agency reported.
The Indian army has attacked the rebels in the Dras, Kargil and Batalik regions located at altitudes of between 15,000 feet and 17,000 feet in the Himalayas, since May 26.
