One of the things I like about Ben's new high school is that they have a crew team. He is really built for it, tall, strong legs and big shoulders. He's interested in doing it. The school counsellor said that everyone who tries out for the crew team, basically, gets to do it. Crew is a great sport for people who are strong but a little geeky, it doesn't require hand-eye coordination like baseball and basketball, nor a lean and limber body like track and soccer, nor macho headbanging, like football. You almost never hear of people breaking their necks and being left in a wheelchair from crew. And as an aside, those crew guys are *built*.
And I've got him excited about joining the debate club, as well. An activity where he may well shine, as he loves to argue, just needs to hone his thought processes and delivery.
And I think the right girls will be attracted to him. Nothing quite so attractive as a tall, well built, argumentative, intelligent man, in my opinion. |
