A: E-Loan is a venture-backed company that has a great pedigree and a great brand. It will likely do very well in the online mortgage space. One of the drawbacks is that their business is very dependent on mortgage refinancing, so they are subject to greater cyclicality than other mortgage originators.

FiNet is more of a technology innovator, and it is in the process of building its brand. It will benefit by having an executive from the leading mortgage origination company in the country as its CEO. The mortgage space is huge, and there will be room for a number of players. The challenges are creating a strong brand and building technology to integrate your operations into the mortgage supply chain.
