I am thinking about your suggestion that genocide is motivated by deprivation of resources.

I think history shows otherwise. In this century, we had the following genocides:

Ottoman Turks killed 1 - 1.5 Armenians 1915-1917.

Soviet Union killed 20 million anti-communists 1929 - 1953.

Nazis killed 13 million Jews, Gypsies and anti-Nazis 1933-1945.

China killed 20 million anti-communists 1949-1976.

Guatemala killed 100,000 Indians 1960 - 1981.

Uganda killed 300,000 people Idi Amin didn't like 1971 -1979.

Cambodia killed 1 million educated people 1975 - 1979.

I am taking this from a history of genocide, it has a supplement on Rwanda, but I don't know what I did with that.
