I never could believe that a major company could keep the earnings secret. Someone have to tally up the numbers and zerox the reports and that somebody has a friend/husband/wive/lover/etc that would be very interested in the numbers. Unless you stupidly buy 1000
call/put contracts. who is too prove that anything was leaked? Of course the brokers will get this info and do their thing, but the anominity of the leaker is preserved.
