Gorak, I'm shocked, SHOCKED, at you. Don't you know that cold calls are done as a public service by warm-hearted brokerage firms? They just happen to know of some great deals out there, and want to share them with as many people as possible.
BTW, I also disagree with your way of handling them. I don't hang up, I listen. Near the end of the pitch, I ask for a prospectus on the deal, and a written confirmation of any promises made. I also insist on the package being sent by US Mail (UPS or FedEx shipping don't constitute mail fraud). Then, when I get the package, I "decide" I'm not interested. If more people would follow this advice, the cold callers would soon decide it is not worth the effort and stop bothering me when I sit down to eat supper.
