Campus Pipeline Ships First Commercial Release

Eagerly Awaited Enterprise Portal for Higher Education Now Available; Students, Faculty, Administrators & Alumni Encouraged to Step Out of Line And

Jump Online

SALT LAKE CITY, July 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Campus Pipeline, Inc. today announced it began shipping the first commercial release of its Web platform for higher education. Campus Pipeline seamlessly integrates the power and access of the Internet with the security and personalization of campus information systems, providing 24-hour access to campus and Internet resources.

First unveiled in December, Campus Pipeline creates a campus that never closes, decreasing administrative costs in schools of all sizes by Web enabling and centralizing campus services. With a single login, Campus Pipeline brings together administrative applications, student services, and course support to create a one-stop shop for students, faculty, administrators and alumni. A user's official campus email account, "My Pipeline" for personalized content, research and career centers and a search engine form the Internet basics. Integration into student, financial, and administrative systems allows students to check grades, register for or add/drop classes, apply for financial aid, pay tuition and fees, and order transcripts. Adding course support enhances distance learning and allows online faculty hours, research, study groups, coursework submission, labs, and course-specific chat. A customizable "home base" simplifies access to these features and adds links to campus news, event information, and school organizations.

"General availability of our software puts us one step closer to revolutionizing the way higher education uses the Internet," said William Borghetti, Campus Pipeline co-CEO. "Campus Pipeline is everything school administrators have come to value in campus systems -- reliability, security and cutting-edge technology -- now turbo powered by the best of the Internet. Campuses need to be able to deliver today and plan for the future, smoothly and seamlessly. Campus Pipeline is perfectly created to satisfy that need."

Strength in Alliances -- SCT, TouchNet, EPOS, GemStone and Sun Microsystems Key to Campus Pipeline's success is its fully compatible integration with SCT's existing campus information systems. Holding 48 percent market share among U.S. colleges and universities with enrollment greater than 2,000, SCT provides unprecedented opportunities for Campus Pipeline to become the home base for millions of students. In cooperation with SCT, Campus Pipeline has established independent distribution agreements with two other systems providers and integrators -- EPOS and TouchNet -- giving the company access to nearly 70 percent of the U.S. higher education market which equates to more than 10 million students.

Campus Pipeline is also working with a number of other key technology partners, such as Sun Microsystems, Inc. and GemStone Systems to provide additional infrastructure support. Several well-known e-commerce partners have also signed on to provide the front-end access to books, videos, auctions and other products and services. To ensure that it is truly the school's Intranet, each school provides its own custom content, while Campus Pipeline provides the integration and infrastructure.

Campus Pipeline Pilot Program

Nine SCT client schools, including Appalachian State University, Saint Joseph's University, Saint Louis University, Salt Lake Community College, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), University of Idaho, University of Memphis, University of Oregon and Villanova University, are participating in Campus Pipeline's ongoing pilot program, providing feedback regarding user interfaces, functionality and features. The pilot program is also providing instrumental recommendations on features, installation, implementation and staff training that will help make Campus Pipeline adoption as smooth and quick as possible.

"Recognition as an information technology leader is a priority for the University of Memphis and working as a pilot institution with Campus Pipeline has been very rewarding," said Dan Thiel, associate vice president for development & alumni affairs at the University of Memphis. "Campus Pipeline will dramatically transform our customer service; our students are our customers and Pipeline provides immediate benefit."
