pomp, i don't think it was a bribe. i was using the term extremely loosely. incentive is a better term. the tools to develop rdram are not all rdram specific. many tools can be used for other products too. micron made out like a bandit, imho. even if rdram doesn't sell chip #1.

intel's game has always been to improve performance. the difference now is that powerful machines are so inexpensive that the bang of improved performance is not worth the buck for 90+% of the market.

rdram will be incredibly expensive to start out. i'm not sure it can gain the momentum. it is useful and does have a place. i see that as 2%, + or -, of the market.
