I remember this crazy idea I had to turn out photovoltaics by spinning them on a conductive fiber. Then you could weave them into fabrics of varying mesh. Cout them with a conductor and lay a fine wire on one edge, then cut down the outer coating on the ends. Could be harvested by clamps.

The idea was that one could create huge photovoltaic tents over desert regions, and grow crops while generating the power to pump water, desalinate sewater, and run electrically operated farm machinery. The mesh of the tent could be spec'd to the type of crop and the amount of sunshine.

Found that someone had beat me to the punch about 2 years before, on the base idea. But the tent thing seems to me to still have some merit. Self powering agriculture.
