Cause that's the way light reflects from it. It absorbs all them other colors, so it looks blue.

Now as to why it absorbs all them other colors, I don't know. I don't even remember lazurite, is it a copper sulfide? I remember malachite.
RIght now I'm supposed to be preparing for a trip, but I don't feel like it. I feel like grabbing a scotch and posting all night, but I can't do that either.

Fambly vacation preparation is such a drag...
