ynot,

<does your analysis or use of patterns change when you short?>

I wish it were the same but it's not. Being early on the long side isn't a great habit but you can do it without getting into that much trouble. Being early on the short side can be lethal.

Declines are more sudden and consume fewer bars than rallies (although maybe more total points). So while I'll enter a long position within a pattern, say near the top of a handle of a cup & handle, anticipating a breakout, I won't do that with shorts. Instead, I get much more defensive and demand an initial break and look for a pullback entry.

Many times, I lose the opportunity because the stock just plain falls. Tell me, how many upticks did you see today on (stock name censored by thread police) between 54 and 44? Not many.

I'm planning on engaging a lot more short side experience in coming months. After getting some pointers on ECN short entry from Mark Seleznov recently, I'm opening a CyberX account to add to my lowly Brown account to be used primarilty for shorting. Should add some fresh ideas in coming months.

Alan
