This is a change in the design that will make SI more appealing to new users -- to someone coming upon SI for the first time. Those who prefer to discourage new users would rather keep a look that shuns "newbies".

If the new design attracts more members then I am for it. We need more posters. Bigger fees means more people have been excluded..not a good thing IMO.

It is hard to call this a 'new' design. It looks a lot like some other boards. It seems like SI is now copying other formats...others used to copy SI.

Long time users are used to change. We used to get a lot of change...with a lot of user input. It has been stagnant for a long time..and now a significant format change that only makes us look like some other sites..not a lot of creativity IMO...just copying.

I think long time users were looking for something more uniquely SI.

User functions that enhance the quality of posts should be a prime consideration. Simple things like a more advanced spell checker...something that can offer suggestions... can do a lot for the quality of the end product. Enhanced search capability also can help reduce redundant posts. I remember back at the time of the takeover Brad indicated Go2net thought our search capability was primitive....so why are we still waiting for better search?

I do not think there is a reluctance to change..I think we were looking for something better. I would like to be a part of a first class message community...it seems like now it is becoming just one in the crowd.
