Hmm. Based on the evidence of this thread, I think it's right on the mark, mr.mark.

But it was presented as a more general statement. I'll try to dig out an old copy of a newspaper that I probably still have. It's the first issue in which the newspaper introduced a radically new design. In it, the editor talks about the accepted figures that show a newspaper will lose subscribers if a new design is introduced. It happens. A design -- whether good or bad -- becomes comfortable to frequent readers. Change is uncomfortable.

I refer here only to the design sub-discussion on this thread. There are great suggestions here for adding functionality to the site.
