Mike,
Thank you for your well thought-out response to my inquiry. I do agree that this thread has become a success, and it owes its success to the diverse group of opinions and relatively limitless topic boundaries.
However, it does seem that conversation tends to focus less on the emerging technologies that have become adopted in the marketplace, those in the Bowling Alley/Tornado phase, and more on the technical merits of individual issues. The current focus seems to lean more on a bottom-up perspective rather than a top-down perspective, which is the balancing ingredient necessary for successful Gorilla Game investing.
Instead of picking through numerous posts to find one that focuses on a particular emerging technology, I don't believe it would hurt to introduce a more focused discussion that effectively filters for them--by establishing its own thread.
Therefore, I don't believe it constitutes "messing with success," but rather, is a means of enhancing the success of the thread as well as the portfolio.
This point is also meant to address LindyBill's concerns about the possibility of splintering the group and losing too many people. On the contrary, I believe the contribution of ideas that introduce and help explain the emerging technologies would boost interest and attendance. While one thread focuses on the emerging technologies and/or sectors, the other one, as always, can focus on the portfolio candidates being considered for inclusion or exclusion, or something to that effect. A link will be provided at the outset to make clear that a companion thread exists for related-traffic purposes.
<<...I think we'd be making a mistake to focus exclusively on the tornado...>>
Your point is a valid one. Moore does mention that most technologies fall under the applications category. Therefore, to address your concern, how about expanding the focus to include Bowling Alleys and Tornados?
If such a thread were to develop, your contribution would most certainly be appreciated. You have been named "King of Gorilla-speak," have experience in the very topic we are trying to muster support for, and have been mentioned by others as one who would be able to provide valuable contributions to the subject. IMO, it's hard to find one more qualified to ask for support.
