Re Why do you think people are concerned about raising cash if that is the case?
I can't answer for other people. I didn't say there wouldn't be problems with the banks, I just don't think they will be last longer than a few days.
I deal with 2 banks. Both have completed their internal testing (one last year, one earlier this year. Both now say that all of their testing is now with other companies and networks that interface with them. However, I am up in Canada, so don't try this at home.
With the other steps that I have taken (extra food, water, generator, wood stove, own well) we can survive for quite a while, particularly if services are available on a sporadic basis. If everything were to come to a halt and you already have provisions, what would you want a big wad of cash for? As a survivor of 8 days without power during the ice-storm, I can assure you that after a few days without a shower, you don't want to go visiting anywhere. < vbg >
