It was a mild recession, and we were already pulling out of it by the time of the election in '92. The Commerce Department supplied revised figures after the election, which showed that annualized growth was robust in October. No one said that the business cycle had been repealed, and it is not clear whether the tax increase started the recession, or merely deepened it somewhat. Other than that one mistake, Bush's economic policies were pretty continuous with Reagan's. As far as the CIA goes, it is ludicrous to imagine that a political appointee who served relatively briefly as director many years ago would have much clout with the Agency to lend to his son...On other hand, your first couple of points are well- taken. Military service is only one factor. Hitler was a brave and dutiful soldier during WWI...
