Park Place CEO leaves hospital

LAS VEGAS, July 9 (Reuters) - Park Place Entertainment Corp., the world's largest hotel and casino company, said Friday its chief executive officer, Arthur Goldberg, is out of the hospital and has resumed his normal schedule.

In a statement, Goldberg thanked Park Place management and employees for their performance during his bout with pneumonia.

Park Place first disclosed Goldberg was in the hospital on June 3. A company spokesman was not immediately available to provide more details about his illness or length of stay in hospital.

''Because of the depth and expertise of our employees and their personal commitment to this company, we are on target with the Caesars acquisition and the opening of Paris Las Vegas among other major projects,'' he added.

In April, Park Place agreed to purchase Caesars and other gaming assets of Starwood Hotels & Resorts (NYSE:HOT - news). The transaction is scheduled to close in the fourth quarter of 1999, pending regulatory approval.
