Great points, I agree with all but one.

Microsoft wants to STANDARDIZE and guide an identical user (customer) base to maximize economies of scale. This has been the strategy from Day 1 I believe. This is absolutely opposed to this new revolution in TAILORED solutions outlined above for small, embedded device design.

I think it is too early to say that Microsoft's standardizing model will not survive. Microsoft's future growth is greatly depended on CE's acceptance, even if it means that Microsoft has to pour billions of dollars into companies such as AT&T to guarantee CE's success. If Microsoft's business model is not suited for the embedded market, Bill Gates and Steve Balmer will change CE's business model.

Microsoft will be the dark force that Skywalker has to deal with.
