I do not think that the lawful exercise of one's right to support the candidate of one's choice is quite the same as "purchasing an election". I still think that George W. is going to make it, because I presume he has weighed his past carefully, and knows what to expect. I think Gore may falter, but I am uncertain yet. Kerrey endorsing Bradley was a blow to the Gore campaign, certainly. I think that Dole has a (long) shot as the first female president, and that McCain and Forbes will hang in there if Bush looks at all shaky. I think that Quayle still has a chance, and I think that Orrin Hatch could be a surprise to all. Finally, I think that Forbes will not quite make it, and that McCain will not either, and therefore it will depend on the credibility of Dole. If both she and Bush falter, I think that it is likely that the nomination goes to Quayle. This is very speculative, of course....
