Jacques,
Re:-"Humble Carl would be proud."

Hey, you are talking about me! I am both: humble and proud!

And royco writes in post #85179:
From a long-term Intc holder( never sold a share since Jan., 1996)and SI reader....

(When reading the following please keep in mind that humble carl was not born with a silver spoon in his hand. Worked as a Plumber's helper in 1950 for 35 cents an hour. In 1960 helped a farmer in Iowa castrate pigs for one dollar per hour. Nasty work: Messed up his hearing for life and the pigs didn't like it either).

The Humble One sez:
Me neither voluntarily!!! But one of my proudest moments occurred into middle of Dec 97, when I received a 7 figure margin call. Not many people have the nerve to brag about something as serious as that! That made me dump a bunch of Intel shares. And then there was Aug 31, 1998, when I got humbled a bit more. The devil was trying to reduce me to ashes!
I case you are in tears, I must report that greed and humbleness triumphed over all the evil forces of sin trying to pull humble carl down. The humble one is sitting on a 10 year portfolio growth of 41.39% compounded annually. Not bad for a fellow who lost 50% of his investment the first year. If I had started a year later with half as much money my 9 year compounded portfolio growth would be a respectable 58.7%.

I wish I could have skipped that first year, as the memories still haunt me. The closest thing to hell on earth was a Tucson Electric stockholder's meeting. Those civic minded older people got the shaft from the Arizona Corporate Commission. This regulatory agency is elected, not appointed, and to get re-elected and end up with a fat pension check, they would promise voters to keep the utility rates low. Hoping to put better memories of Tucson in my mind, and toward that goal we are starting the Copper Canyon trip to Mexico there. (It's supposed to rival Grand Canyon).

The preceding public announcement was influenced by Jack Daniels and Rod Stewart,
humble carl
