It's really not. Splintering Americans into groups is very dangerous and has caused us trouble all during our rather short history as a nation.
The people of America came here from every other nation on Earth, but are Americans. Why must we say, Irish-American, Norwegian-American, French-American, German-American, Asian-American, Japanese-American, Korean-American, Native-American, African-American, English-American, Italian-American, Greek-American, Russian-American and so on and on...
I ask you: Why not simply "American"? Isn't this one of the great dreams of Martin Luther King? What happened to that dream?
