What benefits, if any, does Zicam offer over other zinc based cold treatments such as Cold-Ez (also found in Walmart, K-mart etc.)? This zinc business is nothing new and has been around for about 5 year now. In fact, I recall the inventor of Cold-Ez coming to the pharmaceutical company I used to work for in an attempt to get drug money backing. Needless to say, the company was unimpressed. However, the guy did go on to found Quigley Inc. and made a ton of money off of Cold-Ez. It seems to have been a flash in the pan though since I haven't heard anything about them in a long while (or was Quigley bought out by somebody? I can't recall). Anyway, I've never bothered to try Cold-Ez myself but of those I've talked to who have, about 50% say it works and 50% say it doesn't. Based on this experience, I wouldn't hold my breath hoping to get rich off of a company that makes zinc gum. It's efficacy is questionable at best and it's a far cry from being a cure. Not to mention the fact that neither zinc nor nicotine are proprietary substances. Anybody could run out and make their own brand of gum using these ingredients. What happens if Wrigley decides to make their own brand of these gums? Haven't you ever heard of Nicorette?
