Ian - What's up? I'm puzzled as to what you find disturbing in Richard's post. That is what engineers and management should do - attempt to minimize the running cost, which by definition involves minimizing the 'sum' of the development costs and the maintenance cost. And these are at odds with one another (i.e. increasing reliability beyond some baseline will, by definition, increase development costs.). Do you have some alternative? Clark
