i'll take a stab. The schedules of the 4 established sports (baseball, football, basketball, hockey) overlap each other over the course of the year. That, along with their entrenched deals for broadcasting games with the TV networks and soccer will find it very difficult to get any air time.

if you can't see the sport on TV, you can't generate very much interest.

but ironically, because of the Women's World Cup, women's soccer might just jump. There's a new demographic for the networks to go after...young girls who watch games with their soccer dads. A chance for some bonding and spending. I'm sure the networks would love to get this group.

All JMHO, of course.
