On the Importance of Supply Chain Management
ORLANDO, Fla., July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Manugistics Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: MANU), today welcomed more than 1,500 attendees to Working as One '99, the company's annual global supply chain forum for current and prospective clients, partners, press, and industry and financial analysts. With more than 100 sessions planned, Manugistics executives, major sponsors, customers, and industry experts will share their knowledge and address the supply chain challenges organizations face from competitive pressures. Building on its "working as one" philosophy, Manugistics and its major sponsors will provide attendees with valuable business-building information as today's supply chains evolve into the e-chains of tomorrow.
"Companies are looking to supply chain management as the means to rapidly improve customer service, increase revenue and streamline business operations," said Greg Owens, CEO and president of Manugistics. "The emergence of the Internet has empowered organizations and customers alike to quickly and easily access information on the status of orders, supply chain logistics and responsiveness of trading partners. Throughout the next three days, we will highlight how the power of the Internet can be harnessed to transform the traditional supply chain into an e-chain, enabling enterprises and supply chain communities to rapidly leverage e-business through collaboration and optimization in the new digital economy."
In keeping with the theme of "Getting it Right," Owens kicked off day one and welcomed the record number of attendees, emphasizing Manugistics' continued delivery of rapid results through customer-centric supply chain optimization. Following Owens, Noel Tichy, keynote speaker and best-selling author of The Leadership Engine, discussed how winning corporations nurture their homegrown talent to create a steady stream of creative managerial candidates.
Leading corporations also leverage technology for the good of the company. To that end, IBM sponsored speaker Larry Downes -- co-author of Unleashing the Killer App, Digital Strategies for Market Dominance -- explained how to leverage the supply chain as a 'killer app' and shared insights into how managers are redefining the rules of business to tackle new digital strategies.
Coming off the heels of its e-Chain Solutions announcements, Manugistics dedicated day two to demonstrate the value and power of the Internet as it transforms traditional supply chains into e-chains. Kicking off Tuesday's theme of 'Creating e-Chains,' Ray Lane, President and COO at Oracle Corp., will discuss how the Internet computing model is changing the face of business today. In his presentation on "The Impact of Internet Economics," Lane will cover issues such as harnessing Internet technology for business innovation, driving the Internet revolution, utilizing technology to deliver high performance, and achieving transaction integrity and security.
At Working as One, Manugistics also unveiled Manugistics6, an Internet-enabled supply chain solution designed to allow its customers to seamlessly integrate with their partners via the Internet. Manugistics6 includes significant enhancements in core areas, including demand and supply planning, transportation management and manufacturing scheduling, as well as enhancements to enable collaboration within the enterprise and with trading partners and in open application integration. In addition, the company further discussed its e-Chain Solutions, which were released in early June. (See press release dated June 14, "Manugistics Transforms Supply Chains into e-Chains.")
Attendees will take advantage of more than 100 information-packed sessions and 11 conference tracks presented by Manugistics' clients, business partners, industry analysts, and employees, covering all areas of the supply chain. Clients from industry segments such as high-tech and electronics, chemicals, consumer products and retail, and automotive and parts will share their experiences of realizing tremendous results through supply chain management. Presentations will cover the entire spectrum of supply chain management technology -- creating e-chains, demand planning, supply planning, building/configuring custom solutions, manufacturing planning and scheduling, transportation, supply chain communities, collaborative supply chain and implementation.
