<The latest Intel compiler ia32 4.0 DOES NOT generate prefetch SSE instructions. It DOES NOT have a vectorizing ability to combine four floating-point instructions into a single SSE instruction.>

I have not tried out VTune 4.0 myself. Please read the link.

developer.intel.com

This clearly shows that the compiler does generate vector instructions and generate prefetch instructions.

However this does not appear to be automatic and does require recoding by the programmer to use new intrinsic functions. In any case this is happening at the compiler level and does not require Assembly Language Coding, which makes the recoding task much simpler than for 3DNOW.
