Ben,

As a platform owner, hasn't Microsoft always relied on VARs to build custom apps and do the actual consultant work. Couldn't this model work in the embedded market? There's a company in Bellvue called Bsquare or something like that, whose entire business is solutions based on Windows CE. The fear that keeps me with only a token position in this company is that there are a bunch of desktop Win32 API rejects out there looking for a new horse to ride and WinCe seems to be their ticket.

In a platform war consensus is often the most powerful force. Throngs of third-party vendors with hundreds of mediocre solutions can look like a safe bandwagon.
