Network Associates, Symantec Update Anti-Virus Product, AP Says
Las Vegas, July 11 (Bloomberg) -- Network Associates Inc., the top maker of anti-virus and computer-security software, and Symantec Corp., the No. 2 maker, updated their virus-detection software after a computer hackers group gave away an updated tool designed to invade computer networks operated by Microsoft Corp.'s Windows operating systems, the Associated Press reported. The hackers group, which calls itself Cult of the Dead Cow, made a software hacking tool available at a convention of about 1,000 in Las Vegas allowing someone to gain control of a computer or network from a remote location. CDC and other hackers attending the seventh annual ''DefCon'' convention charged Microsoft has refused to address a multitude of gaping security holes in Windows, AP said.
ISSX Group Inc., which sells network-wide intruder detection and deactivation systems to banks, government agencies and other concerns, said it will make an updated version of its RealSecure software available early this week. (AP 7/11; www.tampabayonline.net)
