Thanks for restating this IOM fundamental key concept so succintly.

The main premise of the IOM *story* is giving customers "what they want . . . at a price they're willing to pay." Open the front cover of the annual report and the words leapout at you in large white type from a bright red background.

It has been reported in several articles that IOM products were designed to meet the parameters established by extensive market research. Designs were sent back to the engineers numerous times when they strayed beyond them.

IOM clearly attempted to define the dog/tail relationship. The market (the dog)rules , and the tail (engineering/products) wag when and how the dog demands.

The tech sector is thick with examples of engineers doing their thing and then turning to marketing and essentially saying, "Find some way to sell this neat gizmo to somebody - it's so cool that there must be somebody who wants it."

IF IOM's market research is flawed, then this flaw will be represnted in their products and the market (consumer -not the street) will punish them accordingly. GIGO

IF they got it right, the Street will inevitably come around . . . they may *fall in hate* with a stock in the short term, but visions of future profits have a way of soothing their jilted affections!
