ASYS receives two orders totalling 3.5 million

Amtech Systems Inc. receives a $1.7 million order for semiconductor production equipment

BusinessWire, Tuesday, March 11, 1997 at 14:24

Tempe, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 11, 1997--Amtech Systems
Inc. (NASDAQ:ASYS) reported that it had received an order for
$1.7 million of production equipment to be used in the manufacture
of semiconductors.
The purchaser is a leading DRAM (dynamic random access memory)
chip manufacturer in Korea. This follows the recently announced
order for $1.8 million from a European semiconductor fabricator.
The purchase order sets forth an undisclosed number of 8"
(200mm) Tempress(R) horizontal diffusion furnace systems, each to be
supplied with three (3) processing chambers, a gas delivery system
and an Amtech class 10 load-station. This equipment will be capable
of performing these processes: metal alloy anneal, oxidation, and
TEOS, a LPCVD (low pressure chemical vapor deposition) process.
This order was acquired through the joint efforts of the
company's European and USA operations. The diffusion furnace systems
will be engineered and manufactured in The Netherlands by the
company's wholly-owned subsidiary, Tempress Systems Inc. The class
10 load-stations will be manufactured in Amtech's Tempe facility.
J.S. Whang, president and chief executive officer, stated, "The
large orders received over the last fifteen (15) months confirms my
belief that through new product development and product acquisition
we can obtain continued growth from the market we serve.
"Our strategy for future growth is to acquire or develop
semiconductor fabrication equipment products that would benefit from
our world-wide distribution channel while expanding beyond our
current niche. Asia has consistently been an important market for
the company. This order confirms our continued success in meeting
the needs of Asian semiconductor chip manufacturers."
Amtech Systems Inc. manufactures capital equipment for use in
the production of semiconductors, which it sells through its
world-wide distribution channel.
