*Raj, I particularly liked the following two points from the article (I'll post the full version when it hits RH's web site):

1. Laments Reid Stephenson, vice president of marketing for Globalstar. 'We are very disappointed by Iridium's difficulties.'"
Yeah, I'll bet G* is really bummed that I* has almost completely squandered its projected 1-year time-to-market advantage and the IridiumNext 2nd generation system is kaput. As an ASND follower, this G* statement sounds like the CSCO statements as BAY descended.

2. "Mobile satellite services will carve out a permanent niche in wireless communications," says John Coates, satellite service analyst at the investment bank Salomon Smith Barney. "Being second or third to market is an advantage in this space because both Globalstar and ICO can avoid Iridium's pitfalls."
Permanent niche where fiber/cell buildout will never occur and huge barriers to entry. Isn't this the crux of the G* investment thesis? If G* can get about 1% (actually less than 1%) of cell users, G* profits will be extraordinary (to borrow Mr. Schwartz's phrase) and we're onto the G-2 64-sat 2nd generation dominance of the mobile satellite telephony biz. the ever irrepressible, djane
