The Gum
by: CorbaMight (49/M) 2652 of 2681
WPI is way past the stage of "looking" for someone to manufacture the nicotine gum. The phrase "final stages of negotiation" was posted here. I have no direct knowledge that this posting is accurate. However, it would be really silly for WPI to have a product like nicotine gum approved and not have a means of producing it for 6 months or more. Wouldn't it be foolish for WPI to negotiate with a potential manufacturer of the nicotine gum, with a target introduction date of summer 1999 and NOT start the approval process for that manufacturer until summer 1999. GumTech has had a nicotine gum production line set up for at least 6 months. That is plenty of time for the FDA to have inspected it and to have processed the necessary paperwork.

There is no reason that the validation and approval process would have to wait for the final agreement between WPI and the manufacturer. In fact, assuming that approval is not automatic I don't see how they could come to a final agreement until approval was granted.
