Don't see IBM buying SQNT as a "technology" purchase , but as a defense

Acquiring it for one year's revenues seems like IBM didn't want the SQNT customer base to go to CPQ who could use it to build a 64-bit Alpha chip base . CPQ is currently in disarray so IBM had the edge .

SQNT was losing money , and awaiting success through marketing INTC's forever delayed IA64 CPU would truly prove patience is a SQNT virtue .

Acquiring SQNT's UNIX talent in the deal should help AIX but IBM's InterActive UNIX (AIX) still needs a Graphical User Interface (GUI) .

However it was a marginally good deal for both companies .
