Re TQ and public apology to Bill for some tongue in cheek comments and others that just weren't polite.

Bill obviously has forgotten more about quality than I'll ever know.

Following is a more courteous eMail than I deserved sent to me by Bill. Last word goes to Bill, a gentleman and an achiever.

Ian.

Hi Ian...you wrote:

"First, before criticizing Baldrige, you should learn how to spell his name correctly. There's only one "D" not 2. It gives you a little more credibility that you may actually know what you're discussing."

Sorry for the spelling mistake but Baldrige came along well after our focus on quality and we were on to other things by the 90's...we consciously decided not to waste our time on the Baldy and I never even learned to spell it. :-)

I was GM at an HP instrumentation division in 1982 and started HP's first major quality program in the USA. Our coach and mentor was Ken Sasaoka who was the GM of our YHP division in Yokogawa, Japan...they won the Deming Prize in 1982. My division subsequently exceeded YHP's OWN quality as measured by THEIR data in 1987, so I may know a "little" more about the subject than you think. I'm not bothering to post this on SI because I don't feel I have to have the "last word"
on a subject that really doesn't have much to do with AMAT.

Best regards,

Bill
