PB - RE: "<On the other hand, Needham & Company analyst Tad
LaFountain says that competition from AMD could be heating up.
AMD's new K-7 chip, which will begin shipping next month, will
be faster than any of Intel's chips and could create "real problems"
for Intel, LaFountain says.>

Our gloomy thread mate (he posts on the AMD thread in fits and
spurts) said exactly the same thing about the K6, I believe. I
suppose the K6 could have been considered to pose "real
problems", but the K6 "problem" has apparently been effectively
addressed."

Tad is just commenting on the Athlon's "potential". Even Paul and Elmer see it. Actually, I believe even Intel sees it. According to the German magazine C't, Intel will lower PIII prices similar to the Athlon's price (or something along those lines). I don't think that makes any sense right now because it will be in such low quantities, but that magazine is a reputable one.

Do you see the Athlon's "potential", or have you already discounted it?

Disclaimer: I know "potential" doesn't = profits.
